I get a lot of questions from people regarding what I do to get my hair to grow so fast. As I was thinking about this, it brought to mind ALL of the “grow hair fast” schemes, routines, and rituals that are out there and the ones that I’ve actually tried…Biotin, MSM supplements, KimmayTube’s growth moisturizer, growth serums, the Inversion Method (yes, I tried that too)!
What I’ve come to realize, for me anyway, is there’s no real hair growth elixir. My hair grows and thrives with consistent care. I can’t say that any of the rituals and routines actually “make” my hair grow. Some of them may assist in keeping my hair healthy, which in turn prevents breakage, which allows my hair to grow. But they don’t accelerate growth. Our hair grows at a rate that is personal to us.
As I twisted my hair tonight, I was surprised and amazed at how much my hair had grown, the crown in particular. The hair at the crown of my head, which was shorter than an inch at the time, was the sole reason that I BCed again last summer. This month marked a year. Although I was devastated that I had to start all over again, when I look at my hair now, I realize it was well worth it.
It may be hard to tell how short it actually was from this picture.
This is my hair after I cut it AGAIN…
I actually liked my TWA once it was cut. Those coils in the bottom picture were giving life! Lol
I took excellent care of my hair this time around and it paid off! What a difference a year makes! This makes me ☺.
So after spending the last three hours removing kinky twists, my hair is free! I missed it! It has grown quite a bit over the past two months, it retained moisture, and it is healthy – which makes me happy because I was worried about it getting dry and damaged.
I had planned on wearing the twists for the summer, but they didn’t last. I may get them installed again soon. Who knows…I love having my hair out.
Today is wash day. One thing I’ve learned over these past three years, more so the last nine months, is that wash day doesn’t have to take ALL day. It doesn’t have to involve all of the fifty-eleven steps that I thought I had to do when I first came back to natural. In the beginning I tried to incorporate every process and procedure I saw naturals on YouTube using in their wash routines. It was just TOO much and a lot of it was totally UNNECESSARY! We live and we learn.
My wash rountine now consists simply of prepooing for a few minutes (which I don’t do all the time), washing, a quick ACV rinse, and conditioning. Twice a month I do a hot oil treatment and deep condition. This makes things so much simpler, doesn’t monopolize my whole day, and most importantly, my hair is still thriving and growing!
Now, to the point of this post! I diverged from my topic for a bit. But I felt that was important to say because there may be somewhere out there who reads this that’s caught up and trudging through as I was.
Anyway…this shrinkage though! Lol My hair has grown A LOT since I BCed again in July. This is what I’m working with!
The shrinkage is REAL! The deception!
Although it’s a source of distress for me, the fact that the hair at my crown is so much shorter than the rest of my hair, it has caused me to smile today. I love the curls that are starting to sprout, something that never happened there over the course of the past year. So, despite it all, I’m smiling! 🙂
That is all…
The breakage at the crown of my head is getting out of control. *long, deep sigh* This area has always been a problem for me, even when I was relaxed. If my hair is going to break, it’s going to be at my crown. I trimmed a lot of the dead, damaged ends which makes the hair in this area even shorter than it already was than the rest of my hair. I’m not at a point where I want to BC again. But I have to do something!
I’ve been on the lookout for a product that would help me recover the hair at my crown since I noticed the problem. When I came across the Bee Mine brand, I noticed all of the reviews that I’ve seen of this products have been positive. The owner of the company, Tracey, created and used this serum after she started losing her hair due to health complications.
Now, I must say, I don’t believe in magical potions for growing hair. The key to a healthy head of hair that grows is all in how you care for it. My hope for this hair serum is that it will help me get the hair to it’s healthiest state. If it actually makes it grow, that’s a plus.
All of the Bee Mine products are at least 99% natural and organic, which is what drew me to them. There are three types serum available: the original Strawberry Kiwi with Sulfur, Mango with Sulfur, and No Sulfur. There are three sizes to choose from: 2 fl oz Trial Size – $5.50 and 8 fl oz – $16.00 (on the Bee Mine website). I ordered the trial size so I could try it out to see if my hair likes it. I will also be doing very low, manipulation styling. So, no more of my beloved twist outs for awhile. *sigh*
Strawberry Kiwi Scent Hair Growth Serum w/Sulfur
100% Natural and Organic Hair Growth Serum Scent Strawberry Kiwi 8 fl oz.
This is one of the Original Serums if you are not allergic to sulfur or have any health problems this would be the one for you. The only difference with this is the scent of the other original “Bee Mine Hair Growth Serum with Sulfur – Strawberry Kiwi Scent”.
100% Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape Seed) Oil, Select Ayurvedic Herbs, Sulfur Powder, Essential Oils, Fragrance (Phthalates Free) & Vitamin E Tocopherol Oil
How to use
Please perform a patch test prior to full use. Shake bottle prior to each time. Apply sparingly to scalp only a little goes a long way. Massage thoroughly throughout your scalp concentrating on the areas that need it the most. You will need to use a moisturizer on your hair after each use to make sure during the process any Serum didn’t get on your hair. If you have high blood pressure, maybe pregnant or breastfeeding please get clearance from your Doctor prior to using any of our Serums.
If you are doing any chemical service to your hair such as a perm, relaxer or dye job please stop using the Serum 7 days before the chemical service and shampoo prior to the service and wait 7 days after the service and shampoo before you start using the Serum again.
The consistency of the serum is like an oil. It has a slight sulfur scent but not it’s not overwhelming. I applied it to my scalp for the first time today. The bottle has a flip top cap that made it easy to apply. I added a few drops and massaged it into my scalp and then applied my leave-in and sealed my ends. There was no tingling or anything as I expected. I plan on using this 2-3 days a week in my crown area and on my side edges. I will provide frequent updates about how my hair responds to the serum.
Wow! I am absolutely stunned at how much my hair has grown in 3 months! It’s so much thicker and healthier! In the previous photos, it’s easy to see how my strands were uneven and I could not grasp a good amount to hold for the length check. In the current photos, you can see how the strands are pretty much the same length now and I can grasp a good bit of it to hold for the length check. Click here and here for my previous length checks for comparison.
Today is my standard wash day. I pre-pooed with coconut oil and covered with a plastic cap for about 30 minutes. Then I did my typical bi-weekly clarifying wash with ACV rinse. I also did a combination deep conditioning and hot oil treatment. I have yet to think of a rational reason why this could be a problem, so alleviating an additional rinse and stint under the dryer saves me some time, but still gets the job done and I love that!
It’s been about two months since my last length check, so my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to do one. I’m so ecstatic! I knew my hair was growing, but it’s grown more than I had thought! Link to last length check here.
Randomness Part 1 – a guy friend of mine asked me, “So how long are you going to keep your hair like that?” Me: “Uhhhh….forever!” I wondered where that question came from. I mean, I know he doesn’t really care for my hair being natural, but I really don’t care what he thinks! I’m loving this hair growing from my scalp!
Randomness Part 2 – So, I pick out my fro and wore it to the grocery store today. I felt like a nubian queen!
Randomness Part 3 – Something I haven’t admitted to anyone since going natural – this hair makes me feel so sexy! I can go out with or without make up and still feel like I’m all that and a bag of chips! Lol
